About the Band on the Run 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run

The course runs on paved asphalt through the outskirts of downtown Wentworth, with a few rolling hills along the way. It is a road race with some texture to it, not entirely flat, but nothing that requires much preparation either. Proceeds go toward a local middle school band program, which gives the morning a pretty clear sense of purpose.

Packet pickup runs the evening before the race during a short window, with race-morning pickup available as well. Awards go to overall male and female winners, plus age group podium spots across a wide range of categories.

Common Questions About the Band on the Run 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run

Will I finish last at the Band on the Run 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 38:35, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:10:23, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Band on the Run 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run a good first 5K?

It is a small race (115 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Band on the Run 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run?

The 5K winner ran 20:21 while the median finisher took 38:35. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
