About the APSU
The course starts and finishes at Emerald Hill, a historic mansion on a hill above where the Red and Cumberland rivers meet. The route winds up toward that hilltop, and the climb is the point, not an obstacle. Both the longer and shorter options begin near the same spot, with the shorter course named in honor of a committee member who spent years running her way through all fifty states.
Registration opens early on race morning at the Pace Alumni Center at Emerald Hill. An opening ceremony kicks things off before the shorter route goes first, with the longer course following shortly after. An awards ceremony wraps things up before mid-morning.

Finish-Time Stats
Going by the 2025 results, this is a small, friendly field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

The APSU has been held every year since at least 2025. That is as far back as RunSignup's records for this race go, so it may well be older.
How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Jul 27, 2026.
