About the Amherst Skeleton Run

The Skeleton Run takes place in Amherst with a costume contest built into the morning, held inside the main gym between the youth runs and the main event. The course is chip-timed, and strollers and dogs have their own official division, so the field tends to look a little different than most weekend road races.

Packet pickup and race-day registration open inside Steele Gym before the start. Post-race food and drinks are set up after the run, and awards cover a deep range of age groups as well as overall and masters categories.

Common Questions About the Amherst Skeleton Run

Will I finish last at the Amherst Skeleton Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 30:07, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:11:54, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Amherst Skeleton Run a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 576 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Amherst Skeleton Run?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 16:31 while the median finisher took 30:07. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
