About the Aaron Butler Memorial Purple Heart Run: Idaho
The course runs through Eagle Island State Park on trails lined with photos and stories of fallen service members. The unknown-distance option is the signature draw: you run until you finish, with no idea how far you will go. The park has seen recent work and the trails are in good shape. There is no chip timing, and walking is fine.
Post-race, the park fills out with food, music, beer, guest speakers, and activities for kids. The crowd skews toward veterans, first responders, and people connected to military service. The atmosphere is heavier than a typical trail race, partly by design: honoring the fallen is the whole point, and the course makes that felt.
