About the Worthy Clause

This is a Christmas-attire race in Columbia, benefiting local nonprofits focused on nutrition, movement, and mindfulness. Runners choose between a timed course and a shorter untimed option. The event draws a mix of people who showed up to move and people who showed up because the cause pulled them in, and most mornings it feels like both.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at a farmers market pavilion in Riverside Park, with race-morning pickup available as a backup. After the race, food trucks and local health vendors set up near the finish, and a live DJ keeps things going while people linger.

Common Questions About the A Worthy Clause

Will I finish last at the Worthy Clause?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 37:22, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:01:24, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Worthy Clause a good first 5K?

A field of 246 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Worthy Clause?

The 5K winner ran 18:20 while the median finisher took 37:22. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
