About the 9/11 Commemorative 5K Run/Walk

This is a commemorative race put on by the city, with a patriotic theme. Runners are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue. The route is new for this edition, with a map coming closer to race day. Beyond the main distance, there is a shorter non-competitive option that starts after the primary race finishes.

The event is centered around the local fire department, where packet pickup runs the day before in two windows, with race-morning pickup available as well. Alongside the race, there are vehicles on display, a blood drive, lawn games, and a DJ, so there is plenty going on beyond the finish line.

Finish-Time Stats

Going by the 2025 results, this is a small, friendly field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

Common Questions About the 9/11 Commemorative 5K Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the 9/11 Commemorative 5K Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 35:15, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:10:25, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 9/11 Commemorative 5K Run/Walk a good first 5K?

A field of 200 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 9/11 Commemorative 5K Run/Walk?

The 5K winner ran 18:29 while the median finisher took 35:15. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
