About the 5K with the 5-0

The course runs out of the Oakland Police Department and heads north to the West Orange Trail, then west along the trail through town toward the Oakland Nature Preserve. You turn around at the preserve entrance and come back the same way. It is a paved, out-and-back route with the trail section giving it some shade and scenery. Aid stations are spaced through the middle miles.

Packet pickup is available the evening before at the police department, with a second window on race morning before the start. Parking is at Oakland Charter School on Oakland Ave, with accessible spaces available there as well. Vendors set up in the police department parking lot, so there is activity around the finish area after you come in.

Finish-Time Stats

Going by the 2025 results, this is a small, friendly field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

The 5K with the 5-0 has been held every year since at least 2023. That is as far back as RunSignup's records for this race go, so it may well be older.

Common Questions About the 5K with the 5-0

Will I finish last at the 5K with the 5-0?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 37:15, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:04:55, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 5K with the 5-0 a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (151 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 5K with the 5-0?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 19:12 while the median finisher took 37:15. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
