About the 3rd Annual 5K Turkey Trot benefiting St. Jude

This is a Thanksgiving morning race in Bruce, raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. All proceeds go directly to the hospital, so the cause is the through-line of the whole morning. Costumes are welcome, and the crowd tends to be a mix of people who take the clock seriously and people who are just there for the holiday.

A kids' fun run follows the main race, open to children accompanied by an adult. Chip timing is used, so results and age-group rankings are posted quickly. Awards go several levels deep across a wide range of age groups, including masters and grandmasters categories.

Common Questions About the 3rd Annual 5K Turkey Trot benefiting St. Jude

Will I finish last at the 3rd Annual 5K Turkey Trot benefiting St. Jude?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 33:49, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:10:38, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 3rd Annual 5K Turkey Trot benefiting St. Jude a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (143 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 3rd Annual 5K Turkey Trot benefiting St. Jude?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 17:23 while the median finisher took 33:49. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
