The course runs through wooded terrain on hard-packed trails with mild hills and the possibility of mud underfoot. There is also a rail trail option, which goes straight out and back on a flat, wide surface and works well for strollers. The race benefits the local fire department, and the people behind it are mostly firefighters and their families.
