About the 5k Candy Cane Run/Walk

The race is part of Germantown's Christmas Festival and winds through residential neighborhoods. The course is chip-timed, so it tracks your result accurately, but the morning draws strollers and leashed dogs alongside runners. A separate kids dash runs just before the main start, both events sharing the same spot at Firemen's Park.

Packet pickup happens at two locations: the park shelter and the Germantown Senior Center on Park Avenue. Both are open for a couple of days before race morning. If your group is large, or you cannot make the listed windows, the Germantown Chamber office can arrange something else.

Common Questions About the 5k Candy Cane Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the 5k Candy Cane Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 34:56, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:06:17, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 5k Candy Cane Run/Walk a good first 5K?

A field of 329 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 5k Candy Cane Run/Walk?

The 5K winner ran 16:51 while the median finisher took 34:56. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
