About the 30A 10K Thanksgiving Day Races

The course runs along Highway 30A, which gets closed to traffic for the morning, so you have the road to yourself. It rolls through the Rosemary Beach area out toward Watersound and back, with the start and finish at Barrett Square. The surroundings are coastal and flat, and the Thanksgiving morning timing means the air is usually cool enough to run comfortably.

Packet pickup is the evening before at The Big Chill in Watersound, and there is no race-morning option, so plan accordingly. Parking along 30A is limited given the road closure, so arriving early or finding a spot away from the course is worth thinking about. The post-race party at Barrett Square includes breakfast and a mimosa and Bloody Mary bar.

Common Questions About the 30A 10K Thanksgiving Day Races

Will I finish last at the 30A 10K Thanksgiving Day Races?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:10, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:07:39, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 30A 10K Thanksgiving Day Races a good first 5K?

With 1,432 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 30A 10K Thanksgiving Day Races?

The 5K winner ran 15:02 while the median finisher took 33:10. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
